Assurity | Katrina Swanson

Katrina Swanson is an oil painter living in Omaha, Nebraska. Over her 30-year career, Swanson has worked on a range of subject matter and materials. Swanson started out working in watercolors painting flowers, still life and portraits and over time became frustrated with the limits of watercolors on paper. An artist mentor suggested to think about painting with oils to allow Swanson to get excited about her work again. At the beginning of this process, Swanson was painting flowers and had a learning curve with oils. Over time, painting urban scenes like the series of Omaha’s Old Market included night scenes, neon signs, and other retro items.  Swanson still paints florals on occasion but is currently enjoying working on a series of candy, bicycles, gum ball and toy machines. Swanson has several paintings in collections across Nebraska including but not limited to Wayne State College, University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) Mammel Hall, Think Whole Person Healthcare, Hillcrest Health Services in Millard and the UNO Engagement Center.
