Wolf Kahn

Wolf Kahn (1927-2020)

Wolf Kahn has synthesized his training with Hans Hoffman in modern abstract painting through the palette of Matisse, Rothko’s sweeping bands of color and the atmospheric qualities of American Impressionism. This fusion of color, spontaneity and representation has produced a rich and expressive body of work.  “As important as the tradition of modernist abstraction is to Kahn’s art, his sketchlike, on-site pastels often show him at his best. In these you take the measure of his enormous talent as a draftsman and colorist…he cites pastel as ‘the determining medium’ of his art.”…Art in America, October 2003 Wolf Kahn’s work is in the permanent collections of major museums, which include The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Hirshorn Museum, Washington, D.C.; and the Los Angeles County Museum.  Wolf Kahn died on March 15, 2020 at the age of 92.
