Trew Hocker

Trew Hocker (1913-1963)

Trew Hocker was born on June 17, 1913 in Sedalia, MO.  His parents were Walter William Hocker (1885-1958) and Jessie Hayes Hocker (1888-1976).  He had three siblings Walter Hayes Hocker (unknown dates), Hazel Hocker Gamble (1917-2004) and John Robert Hocker (1923-1929).  Trew died while working in New York City, NY on January 7, 1963.  He is buried in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Sedalia, MO.

Trew served in the United States Army from May 16, 1942 to August 20, 1943 as a sergeant and from August 21, 1943 to February 11, 1946 as a captain.  I have been able to find that he was stationed at Jefferson Barracks, MO in 1942-43.  One of his paintings Jefferson Barracks Train Station hung in the Post Commanding Officer’s office for many years.  It is now part of the permanent JB museum military collection and on display in our Powder Magazine Museum.  Mr. Hocker has many other pieces in other museums, such as the Nelson-Atkins in Kansas City, MO and pieces that seem to be in private hands.
