Jun Kaneko

Jun Kaneko (b. 1942 )

“Having a commitment to being an artist is to feel that I might have better things within me than what I had made up to this moment. These feelings make me wonder, and give me energy and ideas to do the next work.” Born in Nagoya, Japan, ceramic artist Jun Kaneko has seen his work displayed in collections worldwide. In 1964, he attended the Chouinard Art Institute and the California Art Institute in Los Angeles, Calif., and also studied ceramics under Jerry Rothman in Paramount, Calif. He went on to the University of California, Berkeley, to study under Peter Voulkos in 1966 and then to Claremont Graduate School to study under Paul Soldner in 1970. Kaneko has taught at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, the Rhode Island School of Design, Scripps College and the University of the New Hampshire. In 2001, Kaneko did public commissions at the University of Washington Medical Center, Surgery Pavilion in Seattle, Wash.; the Hatsfield Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, Ga.; and the Marion Oliver McCall Performance Hall, Seattle Center in Seattle. Kaneko also exhibited in New York, Hawaii, Oregon, California, Illinois, Arizona, Wyoming, Texas, South Carolina, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, South Korea and Pennsylvania during 2001.
