“Privates”

My gouache series of self-portraiture explores the intimate spaces of a woman’s life, including the feminine psyche and struggles. The use of color and illustrative quality echoes the styles of artists like Pierre Bonnard and Alice Neel. The environment and perspective play with the relations between viewer, subject, and self-exploration. The subject feels that she is being perceived and invaded upon, and yet she is defiantly possessing the space and celebrating her ownership of self.
